General practitioners and family medicine doctors see people of all ages for a wide range of concerns. Internal medicine doctors focus on adults, particularly those with several or complex conditions. Nurses, clinical officers and other clinicians often work alongside them, depending on the country. • Confirm that the doctor is registered with the national medical regulator. In Kenya this is the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.

• Consider location, opening hours, languages spoken and whether same-day appointments or home visits are offered.
