Why we publish health content

Our guides, topics and blog posts help people understand a type of care well enough to choose a clinic and ask good questions. They are general information, not medical advice, and every page says so. The full standard our editors work to is published in our health content standards; this page summarises it.

Who writes and who reviews

  • Every article shows a named author. Where an article contains clinical statements (symptoms, treatment options, risks, recovery, medicines) it also shows a named reviewer with their qualification and the date of review. We never invent authors or reviewers.
  • Until a clinician reviewer is in place for a subject, our articles on that subject are limited to directory facts, process information (how to check a licence, how to choose a clinic, what a consultation involves) and quotations from public health bodies, and the article says so.
  • Where a draft was prepared with the help of software, a person checks every sentence and source before publication and the article's "How this page was made" line says so.
  • Editorial decisions are made by HealthNaro's editorial team. Advertisers, sponsors and listed providers have no say in what we write, and no article is written to promote a provider.

How this page was made

Guides, health topics, blog posts, category hubs and service pages carry a short "How this page was made" line near the author and date details. For most pages it reads: "Drafted by the HealthNaro Editorial Team with AI assistance, checked against the sources listed, and not yet clinically reviewed."

  • Drafting: a first draft may be prepared with the help of AI software. The software is not treated as a source.
  • Source checking: every factual statement is checked against a named source that is listed on the page. Statements we cannot support are removed.
  • Human editorial check: a member of the editorial team reads every sentence, source and link before publication.
  • Clinical review: we plan clinical review by qualified clinicians. The line names a reviewer and the review date only when a review has actually happened; until then it says the page has not yet been clinically reviewed.

Sources

  • Every fact a reader could reasonably question is supported by a source listed at the end of the article with its title, publisher, date and link: public health bodies (for example the World Health Organization, Kenya's Ministry of Health and Social Health Authority, the NHS), regulators (for example the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council), peer-reviewed research, named academic institutions or dated articles from established news outlets.
  • We prefer the original source over a repost and a dated page over an undated one. Figures such as costs and treatment times are quoted as the source gives them, with the date, and presented as ranges where the source gives ranges.
  • Links are checked at every review. A dead link is fixed or the sentence is removed.

Language rules

Plain British English. No superlatives about providers or treatments, no outcome promises, no "painless", "guaranteed" or "cure", no diagnosis, no medicine doses, no fear or urgency language, no exclamation marks. Titles use the words people search for. Full list in the health content standards.

Dates and review

Every article shows its publication date. Internally we record the date a person last checked every fact and link. Articles with clinical content are reviewed at least every twelve months by a clinician reviewer; articles with prices, insurance or scheme cover, or legal facts are reviewed at least every six months; any article is reviewed sooner when a source changes or a reader reports a problem.

Corrections

If you find an error, use the report form or email info@healthnaro.com. We check the report against the sources, correct the article, post the change on this page and, for a material correction, add a correction note at the end of the article saying what changed and when. Details are in the Corrections and Complaints Policy.

Advertising and editorial separation

Advertising is labelled and kept out of editorial content. We do not publish paid articles, advertorials or sponsored guides. See the Advertising and Sponsored Listings Policy.
