Advertising and Sponsored Listings Policy
How sponsored placement is labelled and sold, why it never changes organic ordering or verification, how featured blocks differ, and the Kenyan advertising rules that apply.

The two kinds of highlighted listing
Sponsored placement is paid advertising. A provider pays for additional visibility on relevant pages, for example a town or group page. Sponsored results appear in a separate strip labelled "Sponsored", links from them carry the rel="sponsored" attribute, and the strip never changes the order of the organic results below it.
Featured blocks are editorial selections, not paid. A block is labelled "Featured [group] in [town]" and shows the criteria used: featured listings are chosen by HealthNaro on completeness of the listing and verification level, and are reviewed regularly. Featuring is not an endorsement. Payment plays no part in featured selection.
Neither is an endorsement, a quality rating or a recommendation. HealthNaro never calls any provider the best.
What advertising never does
- It never changes a verification level. Labels are earned only as described in the Verification Policy.
- It never changes the order of organic search results, town pages, group pages or the directory.
- It never affects the information shown on a profile. HealthNaro does not display third-party ratings or review text (see the Review Policy).
- It never influences editorial content. We do not publish paid articles, advertorials or sponsored guides.
- Patient information is never sold or shared with advertisers.
Who may buy sponsored placement
- Only published listings that hold at least the Contact verified level and whose profile has passed our review.
- In Kenya, only practitioners and health facilities registered and licensed by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (or the relevant regulator for their profession), because advertising by health providers in Kenya is governed by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists (Practitioners and Health Facilities) (Advertising) Rules, 2016 (Legal Notice 130 of 2016). In other countries, the equivalent national rules apply and the provider confirms compliance when ordering.
- Not: unregistered providers, products or medicines, cosmetic procedures marketed with outcome promises, or any third party advertising on a provider's behalf.
What sponsored copy may contain
Advertising copy is the provider's responsibility, and we check it before it goes live. Following the Kenyan rules, copy must be objective, true and dignified and may state factual information only: the provider's identity, recognised qualifications, registration details, specialisation, services, opening hours, accreditation and published research.
Copy may not contain: superiority or comparative claims ("best", "top", "leading", "number one"); promises of a cure, a particular outcome or a faster recovery; "painless", "guaranteed", "permanent"; fee waivers if results are not achieved; patient testimonials or patient images; endorsements by celebrities or influencers; statements that denigrate other providers; prices, insurance or availability claims we cannot see on the provider's own site; or anything misleading. We refuse or remove copy that breaks these rules without refund of the period concerned.
Pricing and contracts
Sponsored placement is sold per country and position for a fixed period, agreed in writing before it goes live. Prices: Placement is not currently available in every location. Request details through the contact form.
